Uncoupled Cast Reacts to Show Cancellation on Showtime and Netflix

Feeling let down by Showtime‘s flip-flop on *Uncoupled*? You’re definitely not in the minority here.

Neil Patrick Harris was the lead in this comedy, which debuted its first season on Netflix in July 2022. Fast forward to January 2023, and it was axed by the streaming giant. Showtime swooped in a month later, promising a second season. Yet, here we are, with that promise now broken.

The news about *Uncoupled*’s second cancellation is out in the open. The cast has started to voice their reactions. Jai Rodriguez, known for his role as one half of the Jonathans, shared a succinct message on Instagram: “Welp, Guess I’m not going to NYC in May to shoot.”

Dan Amboyer, who played one of NPH’s love interests, also took to Instagram. He expressed his disappointment but also gratitude for the experience. “Sad that there won’t be a season 2 of *Uncoupled* after all. Thankful for my experience, would have loved to see this story go on. Had my eyes set on it as soon as I heard about it, originally. One of my favorite projects (to be a small part of)—and a meaningful moment for me to finally play a gay role on screen. Magic people, master creators. Can’t wait to see what they cook up next.”

*Uncoupled*, created by Darren Star and Jeffrey Richman, followed Michael (played by NPH), a New York City real estate agent. His life takes a dramatic turn when his longtime boyfriend, Colin (Tuc Watkins), breaks up with him unexpectedly.

The show’s abrupt end leaves several storylines unresolved. The finale, in particular, left viewers hanging. Michael comes home to find a distraught Colin, who wonders if they’ve made a grave mistake. According to Richman, “We enjoy painting ourselves into a corner.”

Season 2 would have delved into more personal challenges for the characters. Michael’s friend Stanley (Brooks Ashmanskas) was set to battle cancer. Billy (Emerson Brooks) aimed to take life more seriously, and Suzanne (Tisha Campbell) was about to confront her son’s father.
