Kevin Costner Yellowstone Return Conditions for Season 5 in November

Kevin Costner shared his fondness for his time on Yellowstone. He’s open to returning as John Dutton, despite past tensions, but only under the right conditions.

Before the Writers Guild strike, Yellowstone‘s co-creator, Taylor Sheridan, had finished scripts for Season 5’s latter half. Interestingly, these scripts did not feature Costner. Rumors swirled about his demands.

According to Puck, Costner’s representatives later expressed his interest in returning for Season 5B. This season is set to resume filming soon and will premiere in November. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll stick around even longer.

Sheridan seemed open to bringing Costner’s character back. That was until a July phone call revealed Costner’s conditions: more money, a lighter schedule, and script approval rights. Sheridan, who writes every episode, couldn’t agree.

In a twist, at a child support hearing in September, Costner revealed his intention to return for a sixth season. However, he was offered less money than before. Plus, splitting the fifth season affected his schedule for another project, Horizon.

Meanwhile, Costner hinted at a possible reconciliation during an interview at CinemaCon. He mentioned his love for the series and his initial expectation to make seven seasons. Now, he’s uncertain about his future on the show.

Costner even speculated on how John Dutton’s story might end. He’s shared his ideas with Sheridan but acknowledges it’s ultimately up to the creator.

In essence, Costner’s journey with Yellowstone has been a rollercoaster. From contractual disputes to creative differences, his return remains a hopeful possibility for fans. Yet, the final decision seems to rest with the show’s creators and Costner’s comfort with their terms.
