Why mess with a good thing, right?
The 97th Oscars will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025, starting for a second straight year at the earlier hour of 7 pm EST/4 pm PST. ABC and the Academy have made the announcement.
The ceremony’s location? The Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
Viewership for this year’s Oscars saw an uptick. It’s the third consecutive year of growth, delivering the largest audience since 2020. Starting a tad earlier—okay, 54 minutes to be exact—ABC’s telecast, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, attracted 19.5 million viewers. That’s a 4% increase from the previous year. Compared to other winter awards shows, the Oscars were the undisputed champ. They outdrew the Grammys on CBS by 14%, the Golden Globes by a whopping 105%, and the Emmys on Fox by 333%.
Before the grand event, there are key dates to remember. Preliminary voting kicks off from Dec. 9-13. The eligibility period wraps up on Dec. 31. Then, nominations voting takes place from Jan. 8-12, with nominees announced on Friday, Jan. 17.
Finals voting? That’s slated for Feb. 11-18.
As for the host of the 2025 Oscars, well, that’s still a mystery.
