Reggie Rock Bythewood, the series creator, paid tribute to the show on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “What an amazing adventure. In our two seasons, we have launched careers, disrupted genre, brought forth humanity through our characters, told stories we care deeply about, revolutionized the way to shoot basketball and had fun. That’s a blessing.”

Bythewood also expressed his gratitude to Apple, the cast, writers, and crew. He thanked Apple for the opportunity to make the show he wanted to make. He also thanked the FAMbase for lifting them in ways they could have never imagined. He urged the industry to keep telling their stories.

O’Shea Jackson Jr., who played Coach Ike Edwards in both seasons, also shared his thoughts about the show’s cancellation. He expressed his disappointment about the lack of promotion and the impact of the strike on the show’s airing. He mentioned that despite these challenges, the show still made it to Apple’s Top 4. He ended his message by saying he will miss his boys.

“Swagger” was inspired by NBA great Kevin Durant’s personal experiences. It tackled the complex world of youth basketball, and the players, their families and coaches who “walk the fine line between dreams and ambition, and opportunism and corruption,” according to the official synopsis. The show also revealed what it’s like to grow up in America.

Season 2 ended with Cedar Cove losing their big game against rivals from Hilltop Central. The team was devastated by the loss, especially since this was their last game together. They sobbed in the locker room while Coach Edwards (Jackson) consoled them. However, the vibe was more upbeat at the end-of-season banquet as the squad’s outgoing seniors revealed where they were headed after graduation.
