X-Men 97 Creator Beau DeMayo Fired from Disney Plus

X-Men ’97 is kicking off with a bit of drama. It’s been a rocky start, to say the least.

Beau DeMayo, the series creator, got the boot. This happened right before the Disney+ show’s debut on Wednesday, March 20, as confirmed by TVLine.

DeMayo had wrapped up his role as head writer for the first two seasons. His exit was sudden. He was all set for the premiere this Wednesday. But then, bam! The Hollywood Reporter spilled the beans. His work email? Gone. Staff were told he’s out. And his Instagram, where he kept fans in the loop? Deleted.

Oh, and TVLine? They’ve tried to get a comment from DeMayo’s rep.

Now, onto the show itself. X-Men ’97 is a sequel to the beloved ’90s hit, X-Men: The Animated Series. Announced during Disney+ Day 2021, it picks up right where the original left off.

The show takes us back to that unforgettable era. It follows the X-Men, mutants with extraordinary abilities. They’re on a mission to protect a world that’s not too fond of them. This time, they’re facing a future filled with new and dangerous challenges.

The cast brings back some familiar voices. Cal Dodd returns as Wolverine, with Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, and George Buza as Beast. Lenore Zann is back as Rogue, and Adrian Hough reprises his role as Nightcrawler.

But that’s not all. The team includes Ray Chase as Cyclops and Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey. JP Karliak steps in as Morph, with AJ LoCascio as Gambit. Holly Chou voices Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, and Matthew Waterson as Magneto.

And there’s a bit of mystery. Theo James, known for The White Lotus, will voice a character that’s yet to be revealed, according to EW.com.

So, despite the behind-the-scenes turbulence, it looks like X-Men ’97 is gearing up to be quite the adventure. Can’t wait to see what’s in store!
