Netflix has renewed We Were Liars for a second season, the streaming giant announced Friday. The adaptation of E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel has been a standout performer since its debut.
The psychological thriller follows the wealthy Sinclair family and centers on protagonist Cadence Sinclair Eastman, whose seemingly perfect summer takes a dark turn on the family’s private island.
Season 2 will expand beyond the source material of the original novel, exploring new storylines within the Sinclair family universe. Production is expected to begin early next year.
“The response to season one has been overwhelming,” said Julie Plec, executive producer. “We’re thrilled to continue this journey and explore the complex dynamics of the Sinclair family in even greater depth.”
The renewal comes as Netflix continues to invest in young adult adaptations following the success of series like Outer Banks and Heartstopper.
Cast details for the sophomore season have not yet been announced, though key players from season one are expected to return.
We Were Liars season 2 is slated for a summer 2025 release.
