CBS has renewed Watson for a second season, the network announced Tuesday. The medical procedural drama, which premiered earlier this year, will return for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.
The series stars Morris Chestnut (The Resident) as Dr. John Watson, reimagining the character from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories as a doctor who solves medical mysteries at Harlem Hospital one year after the death of his partner, Holmes.
“We’re thrilled with the performance of Watson and excited to bring it back for our viewers next season,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment.
The renewal comes as Watson has maintained solid ratings in its Tuesday night timeslot, averaging 5.3 million viewers in Live+7 day ratings.
Alongside Chestnut, the series features Eve Harlow as Detective Bella Diaz, Rochelle Aytes as Dr. Katherine Chambers, and Inga Schlingmann as Dr. Elizabeth Friedman.
Craig Sweeny (Elementary) serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Boat Rocker.
Watson joins previously renewed CBS dramas including Fire Country, NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, and S.W.A.T.
The first season of Watson is currently airing Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, with the season finale scheduled for May.
