TWD: Daryl Dixon Renewed for Fourth and Final Season with Character’s Journey to Continue

AMC has renewed The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for a fourth and final season, the network announced Thursday. The zombie drama spinoff starring Norman Reedus will conclude its run after the upcoming season, though executives emphasized that the character’s journey within the franchise will continue.

“Daryl Dixon’s story is far from over,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment at AMC Studios, in a statement to press. “While this particular chapter will reach its conclusion with season four, we have exciting plans for this beloved character within the expanding Walking Dead universe.”

The series, which follows Reedus’s crossbow-wielding survivor as he navigates post-apocalyptic France, has become one of the network’s strongest performers since its debut.

Season two, subtitled The Book of Carol, introduced Melissa McBride’s fan-favorite character to the European storyline and significantly boosted viewership numbers. The third season is currently in production and expected to premiere in late 2024.

AMC has not revealed details about how Daryl’s character might continue following the series finale, but industry insiders speculate he could appear in other planned Walking Dead spinoffs or potentially a new standalone project.

Reedus, who has portrayed Daryl Dixon since the original series’ first season in 2010, remains one of the franchise’s most enduring stars. The actor has previously expressed willingness to continue with the character “as long as they’ll have me.”

The announcement comes as AMC continues expanding its Walking Dead franchise, with The Walking Dead: Dead City starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan already renewed for a second season, and the upcoming Rick and Michonne series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premiering February 25.
