HBO has renewed The Gilded Age for a fourth season ahead of its upcoming season finale, the network announced Tuesday.
The period drama from creator Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey) will continue its exploration of New York high society in the late 19th century following strong viewership for its third season.
“We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Julian and our incredible cast,” said Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming. “Audiences have embraced these characters and the world they inhabit with remarkable enthusiasm.”
The Gilded Age stars Christine Baranski (The Good Fight), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), and Morgan Spector (Homeland) among its ensemble cast. The series chronicles the tension between old and new money in 1880s New York through the rivalry between Agnes van Rhijn (Baranski) and railroad tycoon George Russell (Spector) and his ambitious wife Bertha (Coon).
Season 3 has seen a 20% increase in viewership compared to the previous season, according to HBO data.
The renewal comes as the the show prepares for its Season 3 finale, scheduled to air on December 17.
Production on Season 4 is expected to begin in early 2024, though HBO has not yet announced a premiere date.
