Apple TV+ has renewed its period drama The Buccaneers for a third season, the streaming platform announced Thursday.
The renewal comes as the series continues its successful run following its debut last November. Based on Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel, The Buccaneers follows a group of American women who travel to London in search of husbands during the 1870s.
Led by Kristine Froseth (as Nan St. George) and Alisha Boe (as Conchita Closson), the series has garnered critical acclaim for its modern take on the period drama format, including its contemporary soundtrack and fresh visual style.
Series creator Katherine Jakeways will return as showrunner and executive producer for the new season.
“We’re thrilled to continue this journey with our incredible cast and creative team,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “The audience response to The Buccaneers has been remarkable, and we can’t wait to deliver more of the romance and drama that viewers have connected with.”
The renewal announcement arrives as the show’s second season is currently in production. No premiere date for the third season has been set.
The Buccaneers also stars Josie Totah (as Mabel Elmsworth), Aubri Ibrag (as Lizzy Elmsworth), and Imogen Waterhouse (as Jinny St. George), with Matthew Broome, Guy Remmers and Josh Dylan rounding out the ensemble cast.
The series is produced by The Forge Entertainment for Apple TV+, with Jakeways, Beth Willis and Susanna White serving as executive producers.
