Tex Mex Motors’ Rob Pitts Dies at 45

Rob “Rabbit” Pitts, known for his role in Netflix’s Tex Mex Motors, has passed away at 45.

In a heartfelt video titled “This Is Goodbye (RIP 7/27/79 – 8/25/24)”, Pitts left a final message for his fans. Jeff, his videographer, confirmed that Pitts had been battling stomach cancer and died in hospice care. “He will be missed and we will never forget him!” Jeff wrote.

“I started feeling ‘off’ after SEMA [a Las Vegas car show] last year and I was losing weight,” he mentioned in the video. “But I was getting ready to film Season 2 of Tex Mex Motors for Netflix and wanted to be camera ready, so I didn’t mind that so much.”

Pitts shared that he had lost his appetite and experienced symptoms similar to acid reflux. Despite seeking treatment at urgent care, the real issue wasn’t discovered until his castmate Jamie took him to the emergency room in late March, where he was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

“Since then I have been getting treatments at home and it’s been rough,” he continued. “More bad days than good, but hanging in there. I have a lot to live for and life has been going my way. Don’t be sad for me… I accomplished my dream of buying my own store, finishing Season 2 of [Tex Mex Motors] and marrying the love of my life.”

Pitts and Marcos “Scooter” Carrera co-created Tex Mex Motors for Netflix, which premiered in June 2023. The show followed them as they found old cars in Mexico and brought them to their shop in El Paso for restoration. They began working on the second season earlier this year.

: “It’s with a heavy heart that I write about the passing of my cast member & friend ROB ‘RABBIT’ PITTS. Rest In Peace Brother, I’m going to really miss you!!!”

We should always listen to our bodies when something feels wrong.

In his final video, Pitts urged everyone to “ask questions and get answers” if they feel something is off with their health.
