Apple TV+ has renewed Ted Lasso for a fourth season, with star Jason Sudeikis confirming his return as the beloved AFC Richmond coach.
The hit comedy series, which has garnered multiple Emmy Awards since its 2020 debut, will continue its run after what many viewers believed might have been its final season.
Sudeikis revealed that the new season will explore Ted’s readjustment to life back in the United States following his return from England.
“We’re excited to dive into Ted’s journey as he navigates his relationship with his son while bringing the lessons he learned at Richmond into a new chapter,” Sudeikis said during the announcement.
The series, created by Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, concluded its third season with Ted making the difficult decision to leave Richmond and return home to Kansas.
Production is scheduled to begin in early 2024, with the new season expected to premiere in late 2024 or early 2025.
Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, and Juno Temple are all expected to return, though their exact roles in the the new storyline remain unclear given the season three finale’s conclusion.
Apple TV+ executives praised the series for its cultural impact and record-breaking viewership numbers, noting that Ted Lasso remains the streaming service’s most-watched original program.
[Spoiler Alert] The fourth season will reportedly address the aftermath of Richmond’s Premier League triumph and explore how the characters’ relationships evolve with Ted no longer at the helm.
Executive producer Bill Lawrence hinted that while the show’s setting will partially shift to America, fans can expect to see familiar faces from Richmond making appearances throughout the season.
