Task Renewed For Season 2 At HBO – But Who’s Returning?

HBO has renewed its hit drama Task for a second season, the network confirmed Thursday.

The renewal comes after the freshman series delivered strong viewership numbers throughout its debut run, according to network executives.

“We’re thrilled with the audience response to Task and excited to continue this journey,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content. “The creative team has crafted a compelling world that clearly resonated with viewers.”

The announcement arrives amid speculation about which cast members will return for the sophomore season. HBO has not yet confirmed the returning ensemble, fueling rumors about potential character departures following the season finale’s shocking events.

Production on Season 2 is expected to begin early next year, with a tentative premiere date set for late 2024.

Task stars Emma Stone (Poor Things) as former intelligence operative Maya Kraft who assembles an unlikely team to complete a series of high-risk missions. The ensemble cast includes Daniel Kaluuya (Nope), Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision), and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us).

The series was created by Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) and David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies), who both serve as executive producers.

The Season 1 finale, which aired last Sunday, delivered the series’ highest viewership to date, with 4.2 million viewers across all platforms.
