SNL Season 50 Premiere: Jean Smart Hosts, Mulaney and Grande to Follow

Saturday Night Live has chosen an Emmy-winning star to kick off its monumental Season 50.

Jean Smart, famous for her role in Hacks, will host the season premiere on September 28, with Jelly Roll performing as the musical guest.

The show also revealed its next four hosts and musical guests, including Ariana Grande and John Mulaney. (Check below for the full list of hosts and musical guests announced so far.)

This will be Jean Smart’s debut as an SNL host. She recently won her third Emmy for playing Deborah Vance in Hacks.

SNL is planning a year-long celebration for its 50th season, featuring special guests throughout the season and a three-hour anniversary special airing live in February. Maya Rudolph is also set to return as Kamala Harris this fall.

However, not everyone will be back for Season 50. Punkie Johnson left after four seasons, Molly Kearney exited after two seasons, and Chloe Troast was not asked to return after one season.

We love seeing new faces on SNL, but we’ll miss the old ones too.

Here’s the lineup for the upcoming episodes:

Oct. 5: Nate Bargatze/Coldplay

Nate Bargatze is back for his second time hosting after a successful debut last season with the viral “Washington’s Dream” sketch. Coldplay will be the musical guest.

Oct. 12: Ariana Grande/Stevie Nicks

Ariana Grande returns to host SNL for the second time; she has also been a musical guest twice before. This time, she’ll be joined by rock legend Stevie Nicks.

Oct. 19: Michael Keaton/Billie Eilish

After reprising his role in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Michael Keaton returns to host SNL for the fourth time since his first appearance in 1982. Billie Eilish will perform as the musical guest.

Nov. 2: John Mulaney/Chappell Roan

John Mulaney, a former SNL writer turned stand-up comic, will host for the sixth time in November with rising pop star Chappell Roan as the musical guest. His last hosting gig was in February 2022.
