Percy Jackson and the Olympians Renewed for Season 3 at Disney Plus

Disney+ has renewed Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a third season, the streaming platform announced Tuesday. The fantasy adventure series will continue adapting Rick Riordan’s beloved book series following its successful first season debut.

The renewal comes ahead of the show’s second season, which is currently in pre-production. Season 2 will adapt “The Sea of Monsters,” the second novel in Riordan’s five-book series.

Walker Scobell will return as the titular demigod Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. The trio’s chemistry has been praised as a key factor in the show’s success.

“The response to Percy’s first adventure has been extraordinary,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “We’re thrilled to continue bringing Rick’s magical world to life for fans of all ages.”

Riordan serves as executive producer and has been heavily involved in the adaptation, a stark contrast to his limited involvement in the previous film adaptations. The author has regularly shared production updates through his blog and social media channels.

Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered in December 2023 and successfully translated the events of “The Lightning Thief” to screen, following Percy’s discovery of his divine heritage and subsequent quest to prevent a war between the gods.

The series has been praised for its faithful adaptation of the source material and strong performances from its young cast. Production on Season 2 is expected to begin later this year.

Disney+ has not yet announced a premiere date for the second season.
