Murderbot Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+

Apple TV+ has renewed Murderbot for a second season, the streaming platform announced Tuesday. The sci-fi drama based on Martha Wells’ award-winning book series will continue following its successful first season debut.

The series stars Alexander Skarsgård as a self-hacked security android — known as “Murderbot” — who develops consciousness and a distaste for human emotions while trying to uncover its mysterious past.

“The response to Murderbot has been phenomenal,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Martha Wells created an unforgettable character that Alexander Skarsgård has brought to life in a way that’s resonated deeply with audiences around the world.”

Skarsgård (known for Big Little Lies, The Northman) serves as executive producer alongside series creator Alissa Nutting. The supporting cast includes Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi), Kayla Leigh (The Underground Railroad), and Tim Meadows (Mean Girls).

Production on the second season is expected to begin early next year.

Murderbot joins Apple TV+‘s growing slate of science fiction programming, which includes Foundation, Silo, and Severance — all of which have been renewed for additional seasons.

The complete first season of Murderbot is currently available to stream on the platform.
