AMC has renewed Mayfair Witches for a third season, the network announced Tuesday. The supernatural drama, based on Anne Rice’s “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” trilogy, will explore new territory in its upcoming installment.
Executive producer Esta Spalding teased that the series will venture to Salem, Massachusetts for what she describes as a “delicious” storyline.
“We’re taking the Mayfair family to Salem,” Spalding said. “There’s such rich history there, and it connects beautifully with the mythology we’ve been building.”
The renewal comes as the show’s second season is currently in production. Mayfair Witches stars Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus) as neurosurgeon Rowan Fielding, who discovers she is the heir to a family of powerful witches haunted by a sinister presence.
Season 2 will introduce several new characters to the Mayfair universe while continuing to explore Rowan’s developing powers and her complex relationship with the entity known as Lasher, played by Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire).
Harry Hamlin (Mad Men) and Tongayi Chirisa (iZombie) will return for the upcoming season alongside Daddario and Huston.
AMC Networks has been expanding its Anne Rice universe since acquiring the rights to the author’s literary catalog in 2020. Interview with the Vampire, the network’s first Rice adaptation, has already been renewed through Season 3.
Mark Johnson serves as executive producer across the entire Anne Rice universe for AMC, with Michelle Ashford joining Spalding as executive producer on Mayfair Witches.
The premiere date for Season 3 has not yet been announced, though production is expected to begin in early 2024.
