Another star is joining the galaxy far, far away.
Sigourney Weaver, an Oscar nominee, announced she’ll be in The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new movie inspired by the Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
In an interview with Deadline, Weaver shared this exciting news. She didn’t spill much about her role but did say it’s a really fun one.
“I can’t say much about it right now, but it’s fun to bounce between all these different universes,” she mentioned.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
Jon Favreau, who runs the Disney+ show The Mandalorian, will direct the movie. He’s also producing it with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni from Lucasfilm.
Favreau shared his excitement in January when the movie was first announced. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” he said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
We think it’s going to be amazing!
Sadly, there’s also some heartbreaking news about The Mandalorian cast. Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga, passed away in February.
“I am heartbroken by this devastating loss,” Favreau said. “He was a hero from my childhood who I was lucky enough to meet and then had the amazing good fortune to work with. He had the energy and curiosity of a young man paired with the wisdom that his rich life and career afforded him. My heart goes out to his family and countless admirers.”
