Lindsey Morgan has opened up about why she left Walker during its second season.
Previously, Morgan had mentioned “personal reasons” for her departure. However, on the latest episode of the “I’ve Never Said This Before” podcast, she finally shared what led her to leave her role as Micki Ramirez. (Here’s a recap of how Micki was written off.)
She revealed, “I had a spinal injury, which was affecting my nervous system and my brainstem,” in a clip shared by The Hollywood Reporter. This injury caused her severe anxiety and stress, making it impossible for her to continue acting. She added that leaving the show was the hardest decision she’d ever made because she had worked tirelessly to become a lead actress on TV.
“I had been manifesting this moment,” she explained. “I wanted to be a lead actress. When Walker came along, I got my wish.”
Before joining Walker, Morgan was a recurring character on The 100 and only had one month off between jobs. This non-stop work schedule eventually wore her down.
“I felt blessed and lucky to be working continuously,” she said. “But I now realize that I made a mistake by not taking breaks like an athlete would. My dreams were coming true, but I was falling apart inside. My anxiety was overwhelming.”
She continued: “Looking back, I see that my performance suffered because I was so stressed out both mentally and physically. I felt like I was failing everyone — including myself.”
Doctors gave her two choices: keep working long hours while relying on medication for life or change her lifestyle to reduce stress.
Morgan said, “I push myself hard and have high standards; I never want to disappoint anyone around me. I felt like I let Jared down and the show down. That’s the hardest part for me because it still makes me emotional. But taking care of myself is more important.”
