NBC has renewed Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for the 2024-25 television season, the network announced Thursday.
The flagship Law & Order will return for its 24th season, while Law & Order: SVU has been picked up for its landmark 26th season, further extending its record as the longest-running primetime live-action series in television history.
“These shows are iconic cornerstones of NBC,” said Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Programming at NBCUniversal Entertainment. “The consistent excellence from Dick Wolf and his team, along with these incredible casts, has created television history.”
Law & Order currently stars Hugh Dancy, Camryn Manheim, Odelya Halevi, Reid Scott, Mehcad Brooks and Tony Goldwyn. The series was revived in 2022 after its initial cancellation in 2010 following 20 seasons.
The Mariska Hargitay-led SVU continues to deliver strong ratings in its 25th season. Hargitay, who has portrayed Captain Olivia Benson since the series premiered in 1999, serves as an executive producer alongside Julie Martin and Dick Wolf.
The renewal announcements come as NBC prepares for its upcoming fall schedule presentation to advertisers.
Notably absent from today’s announcement was any mention of Law & Order: Organized Crime, which stars Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler. The spinoff’s renewal status remains pending.
Both renewed series are produced by Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment.
