Kendrick Lamar is swapping “Swimming Pools” for the football field.
The NFL announced on Sunday that Lamar will be the halftime performer for Super Bowl 59.
“Few artists have impacted music and culture as profoundly as Kendrick Lamar,” said Seth Dudowsky, head of music at the NFL. “Time and time again, Kendrick has proven his unique ability to craft moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very foundation of hip-hop.”
This won’t be Lamar’s first Super Bowl appearance. In 2022, he joined Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige on stage to perform some of their biggest hits. Recently, Lamar grabbed headlines with a diss track aimed at Drake titled “Not Like Us” released in May.
Usher headlined the last Super Bowl halftime show, with Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Ludacris, and Lil Jon joining him. His performance included hits like “Caught Up,” “Confessions,” “You Got It Bad,” and “Yeah!” but fans gave it an average grade of “C”.
We always look forward to seeing who will perform at these big events.
Recent halftime show stars include Rihanna; The Weeknd; Jennifer Lopez and Shakira; Maroon 5 with Travis Scott and Big Boi; Justin Timberlake; Lady Gaga; Coldplay; and Katy Perry.
Super Bowl 59 is set for February 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans and will be broadcast on Fox. The new NFL season kicks off this weekend with the Kansas City Chiefs beating the Baltimore Ravens in Thursday’s game.
