– New show “City Primeval” features actors from “Justified”
– First look at the series reveals a potential origin story for a Justified character
– “City Primeval” is an adaptation of a crime novel by Elmore Leonard

Fans of FX‘s “Justified” can rejoice as actors Timothy Olyphant and Natalie Zea, who played the former couple Raylan Givens and Winona Hawkins, are reuniting in Frank Darabont’s new series “City Primeval.” In a recent first-look photo from the show, viewers get a sneak peek at the duo reprising their roles as a troubled married couple, inspiring theories about a potential origin story for their characters in “Justified.”

“City Primeval” is a crime drama series based on the novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit” by the late Elmore Leonard. The show follows a Detroit homicide detective, Clement Mansell, who is nicknamed “The Oklahoma Wildman.” Timothy Olyphant is set to play Mansell, while Natalie Zea will portray his wife, Sandy.

Looking at the first-look photo, one might think that the Givens and Hawkins characters from “Justified” had a child, as there is a striking resemblance to Zea’s character in both series. In “Justified,” Winona Hawkins had a child with Raylan Givens named Willa.

The series is being adapted by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan. Frank Darabont, known for “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile,” is set to direct the pilot and several other episodes.

“City Primeval” will be executive produced by Darabont, Schenkkan, Michael J. Malone, David Manson, and others. Branko Ivanda, who directed episodes of “Justified,” will also serve as a director for the new show. The series will premiere on the streaming platform IMDb TV, though a release date has not yet been announced.
