Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi Netflix Hot Dog-Eating Contest Adds Undercard Match, Hosts

Netflix is about to decide who can eat the most hot dogs.

Joey Chestnut, who has won sixteen hot dog-eating championships, will compete against his old rival, Takeru Kobayashi, who has six titles, in a live special called Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef.

This eating showdown will be streamed live on Monday, September 2nd (Labor Day) at 3 pm ET/12 pm PT. The event will be hosted by Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia, with Cari Champion and Chris Rose providing commentary.

Before the main event, there will be two preliminary matches. One features YouTuber Matt Stonie, who won Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2015, against an opponent yet to be announced. The other match includes Leah Shutkever, a Guinness World Record holder for eating.

Fans think this is going to be epic!

The news of this rematch between Chestnut and Kobayashi was first shared in June. It followed the announcement that Chestnut was banned from Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest because he signed a deal with Impossible Foods. This new partnership broke Nathan’s exclusivity rules.

A spokesperson from Major League Eating said they were disappointed that Chestnut chose to represent a plant-based hot dog brand instead of competing in Nathan’s contest on the Fourth of July. “We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest,” they said.

On the other hand, someone from Impossible Foods supported Chestnut by saying, “meat eaters shouldn’t have to be exclusive to just one wiener.”

The last time Chestnut and Kobayashi faced off was in 2009 when Chestnut won in a sudden death round by eating five more hot dogs. Over the years, Chestnut has set many records at Nathan’s contest, including eating 76 hot dogs and buns in 2021. In 2023, he ate 62 hot dogs and buns to win his 16th title.
