Joe Flaherty, SCTV and Freaks and Geeks Star, Dies – Cause of Death Revealed

Joe Flaherty, beloved for his roles on SCTV and Freaks and Geeks, has passed away. He was 82.

The news broke late Monday. Joel Murray, his co-star from One Crazy Summer, shared the sad update on X. “We’ve lost another of my idols,” he lamented. “RIP Joe Flaherty.”

Jennifer Tilly, who played Flaherty’s daughter in The Wrong Guy, also expressed her sorrow. On X, she wrote about her thrill to work with him, praising his “pitch perfect” performance.

As of now, the cause of Flaherty’s death remains undisclosed.

Flaherty’s career was marked by memorable characters. He was an original cast member of SCTV, bringing to life Big Jim McBob, Count Floyd, and Guy Caballero.

In 1997, Flaherty starred in Police Academy: The Series. The next year, he became Harold Weir on Freaks and Geeks, a show now celebrated as a teen drama classic.

John Francis Daley, who played Flaherty’s TV son, shared his fond memories. “Joe Flaherty made me crack up so hard it ruined takes,” he posted on X. Daley cherished the days they worked together.

Flaherty’s extensive career also included roles on Dream On, Ellen, Frasier, and Married… With Children. He was known in film for his role in Happy Gilmore as Donald the Jeering Fan.

His legacy is remembered by fans and co-stars alike. Flaherty’s contribution to comedy and drama will not be forgotten.
