House of David Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon

Amazon has renewed House of David for a second season, the streaming platform announced Tuesday.

The renewal comes as the biblical drama’s first season continues to perform strongly for the service since its debut earlier this month.

House of David stars Jacob Thompson (HBO’s The Last of Us) as the young shepherd who eventually becomes the king of Israel. The series chronicles David’s rise to power, his complicated relationship with King Saul (Martin Henderson), and the political intrigue surrounding the ancient kingdom.

Created by showrunner Rebecca Goldstein, the drama has garnered praise for its contemporary take on the biblical narrative while maintaining historical authenticity.

“We’re thrilled with the reception House of David has received from audiences worldwide,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, in a statement. “Rebecca and her team have crafted a compelling vision that resonates with viewers, and we can’t wait to continue this journey in season two.”

The ensemble cast also features Emma Clarke as Michal, David’s first wife, and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins as the prophet Samuel.

Production on the second season is expected to begin in Morocco this fall, with a premiere tentatively scheduled for late 2024.

The first season of House of David is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, with the the season finale set to drop next Friday.
