FX has renewed its comedy series Adults for a second season, the network announced Tuesday.
The renewal comes as the show’s freshman season continues to draw strong viewership and critical acclaim since its March premiere on Hulu.
Created by Nate Fielder and starring Fielder alongside Emma Stone, the dark comedy follows a pair of estranged childhood friends who reconnect in their 30s and become enmeshed in each other’s complicated lives.
“We’re thrilled with the reception to Adults and excited to continue exploring these deeply flawed but compelling characters,” said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX. “Nate and Emma have created something truly special that resonates with audiences.”
Stone, who serves as executive producer alongside Fielder, earned praise for her portrayal of Elaine, a former child actress struggling to establish a meaningful adult life.
The series has been lauded for its uncomfortable humor and nuanced exploration of millennial anxiety. Production on the second season is expected to begin in early 2024.
Adults is produced by A24 Television in association with FX Productions.
The first season finale will air on Hulu next month, with all episodes remaining available for streaming on the platform.
