Emmys Ratings Surge 54% to 3-Year High

ABC shared on Monday that this year’s second Emmy Awards show attracted 6.87 million viewers, the highest in three years.

The broadcast, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, saw a 17% rise in the key 18-49 age group with a 1.02 rating, compared to January’s show. Fans graded it a “C+” on average.

FX’s Shōgun led with 18 wins, followed by FX/Hulu’s The Bear with 11. Baby Reindeer from Netflix and NBC’s Saturday Night Live both got six awards each, while Disney+’s documentary Jim Henson Idea Man won five.

The Emmy Awards in January, delayed by strikes, only managed to pull in 4.5 million viewers on Fox, marking a low point. This was even lower than the September 2022 show which had just 5.92 million viewers due to Monday Night Football’s high ratings.

We really love seeing our favorite shows win awards!

The January show also had tough competition from an NFL playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which had more than 16 million viewers, and the Iowa Caucus news coverage that drew 4.7 million on cable.

The last time the Emmys saw an increase in viewership was in 2021 when CBS aired it with Cedric the Entertainer as host, drawing in 7.4 million people and stopping a seven-year decline.
