Drew Barrymore, a renowned actress and host of The Drew Barrymore Show, has recently publicly apologized for her actions during the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. In her statement, she admitted to crossing the picket lines and expressed her regret for doing so.

Barrymore admitted that at the time, she didn’t understand the importance of the strike and the significance of supporting the WGA. She says, “I was a young person who honestly did not have the wherewithal to understand the ramifications of my actions and the seriousness of the strike.”

She went on to say that it’s a mistake she regrets and wishes she could take back: “It’s something that I wish I had made a different choice about, yet I cannot change [] what happened and the effect it had.” Drew expressed how deeply she values writers and their contributions to the industry and that they deserve to be advocated for.

Barrymore made it clear that she is devoted to supporting the WGA and the rights of screenwriters moving forward. She stated, “Now, I am a fully committed WGA member, ally and advocate.” The actress emphasized that she wanted to address her past mistakes Head-on, and said, “I wanted to apologize sincerely, and I wanted to do it publicly.”
