Downton Abbey Movie 3: Latest Updates and News

“Downton Abbey” seems to be gearing up for its grand finale. A third and final movie is on the horizon, as revealed by co-star Imelda Staunton during a chat with BBC Radio’s Zoe Ball.

“There will be a final film,” Staunton, who plays Lady Maud Bagshaw, confirmed. This announcement came on a Wednesday, stirring excitement among fans.

It’s been about two years since “Downton Abbey: A New Era” graced our screens. That film brought us the Crawleys and their staff, hosting a movie crew at Downton. They were filming a new silent movie. Meanwhile, other family members ventured to a villa in the south of France. They aimed to solve a mystery tied to the Dowager Countess.

“Downton Abbey: A New Era” had its share of unforgettable moments. One scene, in particular, turned everything on its head.

The second movie boasted a star-studded cast. Names like Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle Dockery were just a few. Imelda Staunton, of course, was among them.

After “A New Era” was released, Hugh Bonneville hinted at a sense of franchise fatigue. He shared his thoughts with “The Hollywood Reporter.” “I suspect, on a practical level, it’s run its course now,” he said. According to him, “A New Era” felt like a fitting end.

Bonneville described “A New Era” as a “joyous” potential conclusion. “And such a good note on which to end the story,” he added. Despite this, he acknowledged that the story left some doors open. Yet, he felt it might be the right time to bring the curtain down.
