Down Cemetery Road Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV

Apple TV+ has renewed Down Cemetery Road for a second season, the streaming platform announced Tuesday.

The renewal comes as the darkly comedic spy thriller continues to build a dedicated audience since its premiere earlier this year. Based on Mick Herron’s novel of the same name, the series follows private investigator Zoë Boehm as she navigates a complex web of conspiracies in modern-day Oxford.

Emma Thompson (who stars as Zoë Boehm) will return for the sophomore season, alongside co-stars Richard Armitage and Olivia Colman (The Crown).

“We’re thrilled with the response to Down Cemetery Road and can’t wait to dive deeper into Herron’s rich universe,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “The combination of espionage, dark humor and compelling characters has resonated with viewers worldwide.”

Production on the second season is expected to begin early next year with a targeted premiere in late 2024.

Series creator Sarah Phelps (Dublin Murders, The Pale Horse) will continue to serve as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and author Mick Herron.

The complete first season of Down Cemetery Road is currently available to stream on Apple TV+.
