BET+ has officially renewed Diarra From Detroit for a second season, the network announced Tuesday. The comedy series, which debuted on the streaming platform earlier this year, will return for an all-new batch of episodes.
The renewal comes after the show’s successful first season, which followed Diarra Brickland, a divorced podcaster who finds herself entangled in a dangerous criminal conspiracy.
Created by Diallo Riddle, Diarra From Detroit stars Phylicia Rashad (Empire, Billions) in the title role. The series has earned praise for its unique blend of comedy and suspense elements.
“We’re thrilled to continue Diarra’s journey,” said Devin Griffin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of BET+. “The audience response has been tremendous, and we can’t wait to bring fans more of the story they’ve come to love.”
The first season consisted of eight episodes and concluded with Diarra making a shocking discovery about her ex-husband’s involvement in the criminal underworld.
Production on season two is expected to begin in early 2024, with a premiere date yet to be announced.
The series also stars Morris Chestnut (The Resident), Cory Hardrict (The Chi), and Shannon Wallace (Power Book II: Ghost).
