Dexter Resurrection Renewed for Season 2

Showtime has officially renewed Dexter: Resurrection for a second season, the network announced Tuesday.

The renewal comes as the first season continues to deliver strong viewership numbers for the premium cable network, marking another successful chapter in the long-running franchise.

Dexter: Resurrection serves as the second revival series following the original show’s controversial 2013 finale and the limited series Dexter: New Blood that aired in 2021-2022.

Michael C. Hall returns as the titular character, now navigating a complex new reality after the events of New Blood — which left many viewers questioning his character’s fate.

“We’re thrilled with the audience response to Resurrection and excited to continue Dexter Morgan’s journey,” said Gary Levine, President of Entertainment at Showtime. “Michael’s portrayal remains as compelling as ever, and our creative team has found fertile new ground to explore.”

[Spoiler Alert] The first season follows Dexter as he establishes a new identity while grappling with the consequences of his past choices and the emergence of a new serial killer targeting people connected to his former life.

Production on the second season is expected to begin in early 2024, with an anticipated premiere date in the fall.

The series also stars Jennifer Carpenter (Limitless), returning as Debra Morgan in what producers describe as “a reimagined capacity,” alongside newcomers Marcus Peters (The Walking Dead) and Lucia Ramirez (Snowfall).

Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Hall, Scott Reynolds, and Marcos Siega.

The season one finale of Dexter: Resurrection will air on Showtime on December 18.
