Dept. Q Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

Netflix has renewed crime thriller Dept. Q for a second season, the streaming giant confirmed Tuesday. The Danish-language series will continue following its successful global debut earlier this year.

The renewal comes after Dept. Q landed in Netflix’s Global Top 10 non-English TV list for four consecutive weeks following its May premiere.

Based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s bestselling book series, Dept. Q stars Ulrich Thomsen (The Blacklist, Banshee) as troubled detective Carl Mørck who leads a cold case division. The series follows Mørck and his assistant Assad (Zaki Youssef) as they investigate unsolved crimes that have profound personal impacts on both investigators.

Series creator Mikkel Serup will return as showrunner for the second season.

“The audience response to Carl and Assad’s journey has been overwhelming,” said Serup. “We’re thrilled to continue exploring these complex characters and the dark corners of Copenhagen they inhabit.”

[Spoiler Alert] Season one concluded with several unresolved plotlines, including a personal connection between Mørck and a mysterious disappearance case.

Production on season two is expected to begin in early 2024, with a the new episodes likely premiering in late 2024 or early 2025.

The series is produced by SAM Productions in collaboration with Netflix.
