With a career spanning over five decades, Margolis was best known for his role as Hector “Tio” Salamanca in the critically acclaimed television series “Breaking Bad” and its spinoff “Better Call Saul.” His impressive body of work also includes roles in popular films such as “Scarface,” “Requiem for a Dream,” and “The Wrestler.”
Born on February 26, 1945, in Philadelphia, Margolis studied acting at the prestigious Actor’s Studio under the guidance of acting coach Lee Strasberg. He began his acting career in Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway productions in the 1970s before graduating to roles in film and television.
A favorite collaborator of director Darren Aronofsky, Margolis appeared in three of the filmmaker’s movies, most notably as Mr. Rabinowitz in “π” and Tappy Tibbons in “Requiem for a Dream.” Fans of the DC Universe might also remember him as Felix Faust in the 2014 series “Constantine” and Paul Cicero, a mob boss in “Gotham.”
