Boston Blue And Sheriff Country Renewed For Season 2 At CBS

CBS has officially picked up both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country for second seasons, the network announced Wednesday.

The renewals come as both freshman police dramas have maintained steady viewership throughout their debut runs.

Boston Blue, starring Amanda Warren (The Leftovers) as Deputy Superintendent Regina Taylor, follows an elite unit of detectives navigating both crime scenes and department politics in Boston’s evolving neighborhoods. The series has averaged 5.2 million viewers across all platforms since its September premiere.

Warren leads a cast that includes Kevin Alejandro (Lucifer), Erica Hernandez, and Michael McGrady. The police procedural was created by veteran showrunner David Hoselton (House, Chicago Med), who serves as executive producer alongside Michael Cuesta.

Sheriff Country has performed particularly well in delayed viewing, adding nearly 40 percent to its audience through streaming and DVR playback.

The modern western-tinged crime drama stars Timothy Olyphant (Justified) as Sheriff Jack Hollister, a former big-city detective who returns to his rural hometown to take over the department following his father’s death.

“Both series have quickly established themselves as cornerstones of our drama lineup,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to bring these compelling stories back for our viewers.”

Production on the second seasons is expected to begin this summer, with premiere dates to be announced later.

The renewal announcement arrives as CBS finalizes its 2024-2025 programming slate ahead of next week’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.
