Netflix has renewed Black Mirror for an eighth season, the streaming giant announced Thursday.
The dystopian anthology series created by Charlie Brooker will continue its exploration of technology’s dark influence on modern society after the success of its sixth season, which premiered in June 2023.
Production details and casting information for the new season have not yet been revealed, though Brooker is expected to return as showrunner and executive producer alongside Annabel Jones.
Black Mirror has become one of Netflix‘s signature series since the platform acquired rights to the show in 2015. The series originally debuted on Channel 4 in the UK in 2011.
The seventh season, which was greenlit last year, is currently in production with an anticipated release in late 2024.
The anthology format has allowed Black Mirror to attract high-profile talent throughout its run, with previous episodes featuring performers including Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Jon Hamm, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah).
Season 6 expanded the show’s scope beyond pure technology stories, experimenting with with different genres while maintaining the series’ trademark unsettling tone.
Netflix has not announced a target premiere date for Season 8.
