CBS has officially renewed the drama series Beyond the Gates for a second season, the network announced Tuesday.
The renewal comes as the freshman series continues to deliver solid ratings in its Thursday night timeslot, averaging 5.2 million viewers in Live+7 day ratings.
“We’re thrilled with the audience response to Beyond the Gates and excited to continue this journey with our incredible cast and creative team,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment.
Beyond the Gates stars James Marsden (Westworld, Jury Duty) as former military officer Michael Reeves who becomes the security chief at an exclusive gated community hiding dark secrets beneath its perfect exterior. The ensemble cast includes Regina King (Watchmen), Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman), and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You).
The series was created by David E. Kelley, who serves as executive producer alongside director Lesli Linka Glatter and showrunner Jenny Lumet.
[Spoiler Alert] The first season finale, scheduled to air May 19, will resolve several major storylines while setting up new mysteries for the second season, according to sources close to the production.
Season 2 is expected to begin production in August with a planned midseason premiere in early 2024.
