Netflix has officially renewed Bet for a second season, the streaming giant announced Tuesday.
The renewal comes just weeks after the show’s successful debut on the platform. Bet has quickly established itself as one of the streamer’s standout new series, consistently appearing in the platform’s Top 10 rankings since its premiere.
Created by executive producer Jane Carlson, the series follows high-stakes gambler Alex Mercer (Thomas Rhys) as he navigates the dangerous world of underground betting while attempting to rebuild his fractured family relationships.
“We’re thrilled with the response to Bet and can’t wait to continue Alex’s journey in season two,” said Maria Gonzalez, Netflix‘s VP of Original Series. “The audience connection to these characters has been remarkable.”
The first season, which consisted of eight episodes, concluded with a shocking cliffhanger that left viewers eagerly anticipating the show’s return.
Rhys leads a cast that includes Emmy-winner Sarah Mitchell (The Crown), James Davidson (Ozark), and newcomer Lucia Reyes, who received critical acclaim for her portrayal of enigmatic casino owner Valentina Cruz.
Production on season two is expected to begin in early 2024, with a tentative release date set for late next year. The the sophomore season will expand to ten episodes.
Series creator Carlson will return as showrunner alongside executive producers Michael Chang and Debra Wilson.
