Ballard Renewed for Season 2 at Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has officially renewed Ballard for a second season, the streaming service announced Tuesday. The renewal comes ahead of the crime drama’s first season finale, scheduled to air next month.

The series, based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, has performed strongly since its debut, according to Prime Video executives.

“We’re thrilled with the overwhelming response to Ballard and excited to continue bringing this compelling character to our global audience,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios.

Ballard stars Tess Haubrich (Wolverine, Bad Behaviour) as Los Angeles Police Detective Renée Ballard, who works the overnight shift at the Hollywood station while pursuing cold cases during her off-hours. The series explores Ballard’s dedication to seeking justice while navigating departmental politics and her own troubled past.

The ensemble cast includes Richard Brooks (Law & Order), Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) and Lisa Brenner (The Patriot), with recurring appearances from Courtney Taylor (Abbott Elementary).

Michael Connelly serves as executive producer alongside showrunner Michael Alaimo (The Closer, Major Crimes). The series is produced by Hieronymus Pictures in association with Amazon MGM Studios.

Season one of Ballard premiered in September with a 10-episode order. The season finale will stream on November 17.

Production on season two is expected to begin early next year in Los Angeles, with a tentative release date set for late 2024.
