All Creatures Great And Small Renewed For Seasons 7 And 8

Channel 5 and PBS have jointly announced a double-season renewal for All Creatures Great and Small, securing the series through its eighth season.

The beloved period drama, based on James Herriot’s autobiographical books about rural veterinary life in Yorkshire, will continue production with Playground Entertainment at the helm.

This early renewal comes as the show’s sixth season prepares to debut later this year. The series has maintained strong viewership across both networks since its premiere.

Samuel West (Mr. Selfridge), Nicholas Ralph (The Most Reluctant Convert), Anna Madeley (In Bruges), Rachel Shenton (The Silent Child), and Callum Woodhouse (The Durrells) lead the ensemble cast portraying the staff and family of Skeldale House veterinary practice.

“The remarkable connection audiences have formed with the residents of Skeldale House has exceeded our expectations,” said Sebastian Cardwell, Channel 5’s Deputy Chief Content Officer. “We’re thrilled to continue bringing these heartwarming stories to viewers.”

All Creatures Great and Small has become a cornerstone of PBS’s Masterpiece programming in the U.S., consistently drawing critical acclaim and loyal viewership.

The series is set in 1930s Yorkshire and follows the adventures of veterinarian James Herriot as he builds his practice among the farming community of the Yorkshire Dales.

Colin Callender, Executive Producer and CEO of Playground Entertainment, noted that the early renewal allows the creative team to plan a more expansive story arc across multiple seasons.

Seasons 7 and 8 will each consist of six episodes plus a Christmas special, maintaining the format established in previous seasons.

Production on Season 7 is scheduled to begin in Yorkshire in 2025 following the completion of the upcoming sixth season.
