ABC has renewed five of its most-watched series for the 2024-25 television season, the network announced Tuesday. The lineup includes 9-1-1, The Rookie, Abbott Elementary, Will Trent and Grey’s Anatomy.
9-1-1 will return for its eighth season overall and second on ABC after moving from Fox last year. The first-responder drama starring Angela Bassett and Peter Krause has performed strongly in its new home, averaging 11.7 million viewers across platforms.
The Rookie, led by Nathan Fillion, secured its seventh season renewal after maintaining consistent viewership in its Sunday night slot. The police procedural has become one of the network’s most reliable performers since its 2018 debut.
Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary will return for a fourth season. The workplace sitcom created by and starring Quinta Brunson continues to be a critical darling and ratings success for the network.
Will Trent, based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling book series, earned a third season. The crime drama stars Ramón Rodríguez as a special agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Medical juggernaut Grey’s Anatomy received its record-extending 21st season order. The Shonda Rhimes-created series remains ABC‘s longest-running primetime drama.
Notably absent from the renewal announcement was freshman medical drama Doctor Odyssey, starring Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek, The Affair). The series, which follows a cruise ship doctor, remains in limbo with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
These renewals come as networks prepare for their upfront presentations to advertisers in May, where full fall schedules will be unveiled.
