Although Hollywood films rarely reflect exactly how real-life interactions & encounters work, they often take influence from real-world situations and use them to create intriguing narratives the masses adore. One of the situations often used in Hollywood films is hookups. So, what exactly makes hookups so appealing, relatable, and even inspirational?

Well, hookups—in the real world—offer many benefits over traditional relationships. By nature, these types of encounters are brief and purely sexual, meaning all parties involved can focus purely on achieving sexual success without fussing over romance and all of the intricacies it can bring to a situation. In other words, they’re hot, low-key, and fun.

Nowadays, it’s pretty easy to find a hookup. Singles have plenty of options to find a partner, both online and off. For online options, singles can simply find a local dating website, write that they’re looking for a hookup now, and wait for the messages to start flooding in! Such matchmaking outlets nowadays provide people a safe and secure space for arranging short-term dates quickly and easily. And thanks to the geolocation feature used on almost every top dating platform, finding flings becomes even easier. For an offline approach, they only need to head to a local bar, pub, or club to connect with other singles looking for a good time.

Of course, finding a hookup isn’t always so straightforward. Singles need to make sure that they look attractive, have adequate flirting skills, and know where to look. For that reason, many singles choose to find hookups online, where they can match & flirt from the comfort of their own homes without needing to waste time & money going out.

Five Titles Exploring the Topic of Hookups

Each hookup is unique, even if they’re all motivated by the same things: here are five exciting Hollywood hookups for you to take inspiration from on your future sexual endeavors!

Before Sunrise (1995)

In this 1995 film, the camera follows an American man, Jesse, who meets the lovely Celine while on his way to Vienna. Celine is returning from Paris, but after a few deep conversations, the two form a bond & Jesse successfully convinces Celine to stop with him in Vienna. He’s planning on flying back to the United States the morning after, but—having no place to stay for the night—the pair decide to spend the evening wandering around the city of Vienna. Naturally, the longer the pair spend together, the stronger their attraction goes. What do they decide to do the morning after? You’ll have to watch & find out!

 Swimfan (2002)

Although this story is set in a more modern setting where online dating is a big thing, protagonist Ben Cronin still meets new girl Madison Bell the old-fashioned way: face to face! The problem? Ben already has a girlfriend, and since he’s a highly successful athlete, he essentially has his entire life planned out ahead of him. Naturally, Madison finds Ben attractive and decides to pursue him romantically. Although things start out with no further intentions implied, Madison decides she doesn’t want to just be friends: she wants to be much more than that!

Going the Distance (2010)

In a perfect world, love would be easy, simple, and always enjoyable. However, anyone who’s ever lived a day in the real world knows that this isn’t always the case: Hollywood actually kept things realistic in this film! The film centers around couple Erin and Garrett, two lovers who live in separate cities due to work & school but are still routinely getting together to keep their love life alive. Life is going well, and it seems like the two will be able to reunite soon enough, but then each of them receives their own dose of positive news, leaving us with the question… will love triumph after all, or are their individual opportunities just too good to pass up?

Walk of Shame (2014)

Much like the overall performance of this movie, the story begins with an audition for a job where the main character (Meghan) didn’t do well. After this initial failure, Meghan decides to forget her losses and party her sorrows away. This goes to plan, and she finds herself in a stranger’s house the following day with a message on her phone. The catch? She can have the job she was after all along… if she can make it to her agent in time! Stuck in a place she’s never been without cash, a car, or a cell phone, this film follows Meghan and her amusing struggle to make it across the city before the clock runs out on the lucrative job offer.

Berlin Syndrome (2017)

Like the other films, this story follows a young single who meets a potential partner. The setting? Out of the country, alone, and vulnerable. Clare meets a man named Andi, who initially seems charming and attractive. After spending a few dates together, Clare decides to take a chance & goes over to Andi’s apartment. Unfortunately for Clare, although she’s set to leave the day after, Andi has other plans. This story shows exactly what you don’t want to happen to you when you hook up with a complete stranger in a foreign country, all alone, with no one to turn to.
